Boasting a history that spans nearly two decades, AGDA was formed in 2001 and incorporated in February 2002, and represents the union of proud, top-achieving, like-minded Manufacturers, Dealers, Suppliers and Installers in the Garage Door Industry. Their mission claimed at its core a primary focus on the advancement and promotion of its host industry:

  • Promotion of industry and consumer awareness of safety issues
  • Providing an industry voice for representation to governments and regulators
  • Providing an industry voice for representation on standards
  • Having clear, safe and customer focused regulations
  • Having a level playing field with regulations equally enforced
  • Providing benefits to industry generally
  • Promotion of industry professionalism
  • Education of public as an industry task to ensure:
    • Appropriate specifications for each job
    • Appropriate structure to support installation of garage doors
    • Appropriate advice on maintenance

AGDA is governed by a mandated Code of Conduct that provides regulation, organisation, and needed standardisation.

This CODE OF CONDUCT represents a binding commitment on the part of every AGDA member engaged in the manufacture, installation, distribution, maintenance and repair of garage doors, automation and their components to achieve a high standard of quality, safety and reliability.

Each member shall observe and comply with the following requirements at all times:

Safety

Members shall continually monitor its practices with regard to health and safety issues, and shall do all that is practicable and required to prevent personal injury by protecting its employees and all others who may be affected by this work from all foreseeable hazards which could arise from such work. The member shall be able to provide a written health and safety policy regarding all work projects, and evidence that he/she has taken all practicable steps to ensure adherence to the policy.

All members must become and remain certified for the production and/or installation of garage doors, and must follow all currently regulated and written and posted health and safety practices and standards.

Standard of workmanship

Members shall observe a high standard of workmanship and any goods or materials supplied by the member shall be fit for the purpose for which they are intended.

All goods, materials and workmanship the member provides shall comply with relevant laws, codes and compliance requirements. The member will ensure that all work is of a good standard, meeting the customers’ expectations, with any defects promptly rectified. The member undertakes the responsibility to follow up and resolve all valid customers’ complaints, promptly and courteously.

In summary, each member must be in some way involved in the manufacture, installation, repair and sale of garage door products and accessories. They always must work to an exalted standard of quality, safety and reliability. Their workmanship and materials must be fit for purpose and exemplary. They must have the knowledge and resources to complete their contracts to meet technical and creative requirements, with sufficient, high quality materials and resources on hand. All work must be monitored regularly, with defects repaired on the spot and with courtesy per the customer’s request. All garage door products sold must be tested and manufactured according to pre-specified specifications, with warranties and guarantees attached to the finished products.

Business Integrity

The members shall observe a high standard of business integrity in all aspects of business dealings. The members shall represent their product and services in an accurate and honest manner, and shall not mislead customers or suppliers in respect to dealings with that company or any other party. As members of AGDA, we all act so as to uphold and enhance the honour, objectives and dignity of the Association; contracts with clients, likewise, should be likewise fairly negotiated.

Member company owners must provide viable and dependable employment for employees, as well as a workplace free of discrimination and harassment. All contracts must be fairly executed with no hidden or exorbitant taxes and fees. All products and services should be represented honestly and fully in advertising and marketing efforts.

Products

All products sold and or installed by the members shall have been thoroughly tested and manufactured according to published guidelines and specifications. All products will meet statutory requirements and for residential work carry a minimum twelve months warranty.

Enforcement of Code of Conduct

In the event that any member fails to comply with the code of conduct, the member shall receive a warning, together with appropriate advice on compliance with the code of conduct and, in the event of further failure to comply with the code of conduct, the member may be suspended or expelled from the AGDA by majority decision of the Executive Committee. In the event of any complaint arising out of an alleged breach of this code of conduct by a member of the AGDA, formal written notice of the complaint should be sent to the Secretary of the AGDA, who will arrange for the matter to be investigated and presented to the Executive Committee for consideration and appropriate action.
